Experience Christmas in Curaçao

It’s the most wonderful time of the year… to visit Curaçao! Trade the cold and the snow for a little bit of island Ho Ho Ho.

Christmas is a special time of the year anywhere. Curaçao has some extra Christmas sparkle - with many exciting things to see and do and a festive atmosphere throughout the island. Once you’ve experienced Christmas in Curaçao, you might want to keep coming back every year!

Enjoy the Incredible Street Decorations

The streets are always beautifully decorated. Expect to see Christmas trees, complete with lights and tinsel, on almost every roundabout and street corner. It is a must to drive around or stroll down Punda, Otrobanda and Pietermaai to enjoy all the lights and decorations. We don’t recommend having to be anywhere in a hurry because people will park their car in the middle of the road just to take pictures.

The local Christmas die-hards will have their homes, gardens, and offices decorated (complete with reindeer ear vehicles) before November even hits.

Visit the Christmas Fairs

One of the best things to do in Curaçao in December is visit one of the many Christmas Fairs. Dotted all over the island, these Christmas Fairs, or
Kerstmarkt, have something fun for everyone and they’re all free of charge. Some of the most popular ones are at Landhuis Bloemhof, Mambo Boulevard, and, of course, the Pietermaai Kerstmarkt. Keep an eye on the Pietermaai website during December for details and information!

Try the Home-Made Food, Drinks and Souvenirs

During Christmastime, all the local vendors sell their beautiful home-made wares. Take a slow walk down the town streets to enjoy all kinds of delicious Christmas food and drinks, and pick up a couple of souvenirs to take home. You won’t be able to stop yourself from getting into the Christmas spirit, with live music and performances happening almost everywhere you look!

Partake in the Santa Run

It wouldn’t be Christmas in Curaçao without
the annual Santa Run. This 5km run and walking “race” takes place in Punda, with everyone dressing up in Santa costumes. The only thing more fun than seeing all the Santas is joining in! It’s always a lot of fun and the whole family can participate.

See the Fireworks

The last two weeks of December see many firework shows all over the island. You may have seen fireworks before, but not like this. There are several places you can head out to watch. Park your car, or arrive on foot and watch from one of the many viewpoints on the side of the busy streets. Don’t miss the
pagara shows, traditional loud popping firecrackers that chase away the bad spirits from the year.

Stay for the New Year’s Eve Parties

There is so much to see and do on December 31st that it's almost impossible to choose where to start and finish. From the early morning, the streets are packed with people, music, food trucks, and
oliebollen ( the dutch treat), and there are numerous restaurants, bars, clubs and stores to visit.

For the children, you have your choice of where to go for games and entertainment. Pietermaai, Punda and Otrobanda are always excellent spots to  fill your day, evening and night watching fireworks, dancing and partying. Mambo Beach is also a must-see. Every year they host the biggest concerts, complete with artists from abroad and, of course, spectacular firework shows - which can be seen from Dolphin Suites hotel if you’d prefer to stay in!

Start the New Year with the Nieuwjaarsduik

On the 1st of January, take part in
the annual Nieuwjaarsduik. This is a very typical Dutch activity, but where in the Netherlands the jump is into freezing water, in Curaçao it’s a lot warmer (and nicer!).
